Tomb in Between Dharampura and Mughalpura

Description of Tomb

Description of Tomb

Daily thousands of people watch this tomb when they move from Dharampura to Mughalpura but I can bet that not even 2% of them know that what is it. I watch it for more than 10 years and didn’t think of going there. But it comes to my mind always to see what is it and at last I go and found a mausoleum. It is of Nobles of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir’s period and the name of that Noble is ‘Khan-e-Jahan Bahadur Zafar Jang Kokaltash’.

I’m writing word to word description of this tomb which is writen there. “Khan-e-Jahan Bahadur Zafar Jhan Kokaltash was among the Nobles of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Alamigir period. He died in 1697 and the tomb must have been constructed about the same time. The mausoleum is octagonal in plan with high arches on each side and stands on an octagonal platform. The entire building is constructed in cut brick work without any use of red sand stone which makes it significant among other building of that period.” Description is writen in both languages Urdu and English, who want to read in Urdu can click on the photo to enlarge.

It is right next to Royal Palm (under construction Hotel and constructed community/sports club) but after railway crossing at the same side of road. When railway crossing’s doors are closed for long and a slow train passes through, then people have only two things to do; count the bogies of train or stare at this tomb.

I still remember that during my college days, I had been there. It was really beautiful but the condition was so bad that it was unbearable. Any way its really so painful to see the condition of our heritage.
