Coming Festival ‘Basant’
People of Lahore are preparing themselves for the ‘Basant’ or ‘Jashn-e-baharan’ festival which is planned on 14th and 15th of this month. It would start at 14th night and end at 15th sunset. Lahore is the Pakistan’s most active city for Basant and people from all over the world came here to experience this festival of kite flying. Most active area in Lahore is the ‘old Lahore’ or ‘Andron-e-Lahore’ however it is celebrated in whole city with the same passion. There is impossible to find any space in any hotel of Lahore at Basant and still you found no one on the road, because every one is at the roof top for kite flying.
Where it brought smile and fun for the people it also has the evil side. Sharp thread ‘door‘ had cut throats of many innocent children, so its really hard to decide whether to enjoy on it or protest it. This evil side could be secure if Govt. give a strict rule of using the rods at front of bike and provide them at every traffic signal; then people would only experience the fun part.
Further after Basant I’m planning to roam in some of the cities of Pakistan. Only hurdle in traveling nowadays is the ‘Long March’, Police is standing at every place stopping people, inquiring them. Lets see if I still manage to travel then it would be shown with my coming posts. But ‘Long March’ is much more important than my travelling and I would love even if I don’t get a chance to move elsewhere.
Besdies the discussion whether Basant festival is against the traditions of Islam or not; it has proved very harmful for the human
lives during the recent years. People used to fly kites for many many years but at that time the threads used were not so furious and dangerous as compared to those being used now a days. It has caused loss of a number of human lives. It is suggested that if at all this has to be done, special places (big grounds) outside the city should be fixed and also use of chemical and dangerous threads be banned. Any one violating these rules should be dealt with strict hands.
Kite flying grounds just outside the city or away from public area is a good advice
